Cognate Categories

Description

The cognate explores the gendered nature of political life, and its influence on individuals, families and society. The courses break down dichotomies of public versus private spheres and formal versus informal politics, and examine the effects of sex and gender on a broad range of political activities. An introductory course provides a broad and systematic overview, while additional courses delve into specific issues, such as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights; reproductive rights; family policies; work and employment in the global economy; and the intersection of gender, race and class more deeply.
