Description

The most important institution in American politics is the Congress, the central meeting point of the mass public and governing elite. The U.S. Congress is designed to be responsive to the petitions and opinions of U.S. citizens. Interest groups and political parties are essential organizations in the relationship between citizens and leaders. They organize citizens around issues and ideas and inform the public about the actions of Congress and its members. This cognate approaches the study of Congress from the discipline of political science.
