Cognate Categories

Description

The foundations of the natural sciences within the context of their interrelationships to the human condition and to society. Designed for non-science majors, the objectives of this cognate are to engage students in at least three different scientific areas: First, by developing a critical understanding of scientific principles and issues impacting our natural world and in the public domain; second by developing an appreciation for methods of scientific inquiry and for the reciprocal nature between scientific discovery and societies; and third by demonstrating the ability to formulate and communicate informed opinions concerning scientific issues in the public sphere.
