Conceptions of womanhood, manhood, and sexuality play a major role in social, political, economic, legal, and religious ideas and practices. The courses on gender and sexuality offered by the Department of History examine the varied and changing attitudes toward gender and sexuality that have shaped institutions, ideas, and everyday interactions in a range of historical settings. They place gender and sexuality at the center of historical inquiry and human experience.
